1910.178(l) Puts Operator Evaluation on Your Trainer
Under 1910.178(l)(2)(iii), all operator training and evaluation must be done by people with the knowledge, training, and experience to train operators and evaluate their competence. Construction sites follow the same rule through 1926.602(d).
The course prepares your trainer; the employer still certifies each operator. The certification under 1910.178(l)(6) names the operator, the training date, the evaluation date, and the person who did the training or evaluation.
Forklift Trainer Certification Pays Off at the Three-Year Evaluation
Every operator needs a performance evaluation at least once every three years, plus refresher training after an accident, a near miss, unsafe operation, or a change in truck type or workplace conditions. An in-house trainer handles those events on your schedule.
Choose someone who already operates the trucks well and has the authority to pull an operator off a truck after a failed evaluation.
